the house of german artist otto dix where he spent his final year is to become a museum, renovated and will run by the kunstmuseum stuttgartin. the house is located in the southern german village of hemmenhofen, 150 km south of stuttgart. the plan is to reopen it as a museum in 2010 and will be shown most important otto dix collection including his savage portraits of notable figures in pre-war germany.

the house was originally opened as a museum after otto dix’s death in 1968. however lack of financial support, after short opening, it was closed in 1991. this time there have been significant contributions from stuttgart city, municipalities of gaienhofen and konstanz, as well as from private sponsors. dix’s grandchild, bettina pfefferkorn has sold the house to the foundation at 50% less than its market value to support the project.
