Teaming up with Nordic designers, Finnish Design Shop created PELATA, a range of sculptural objects with a playful twist. The signature collection presents a series of heirloom-quality wooden games and instruments, designed to be enjoyed for generations to come. Launched in 2024 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Finnish Design Shop, the works are all about embracing the extraordinary in everyday life.

Anderssen & Voll draws on the classic labyrinth game, crafting a simplified, sculptural version from solid ash for Sokkelo. Prikka by TAF Studio is a classic backgammon board in beech that doubles as a tray, while Huippa by Kaksikko is a classic ring toss reimagined with a collapsible structure. Designed to capture the connection Finns have with their forests, Studio Tolvanen’s Metsäpallo is a yard bowling game in beech. Meanwhile Krroc and Bic-Bac-Boc by Anderssen & Voll is a simple percussion instruments in solid ash with a quirky, animalistic appearance.

Finnish Design Shop is a leading online store for over 300 design brands sold to more than 180 countries. From the outset, its mission has been to introduce the Nordic lifestyle and values to homes all around the world. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the store teamed up with celebrated Nordic designers including Anderssen & Voll, TAF Studio, Studio Tolvanen, and Kaksikko to create its first-ever signature collection. ‘We wanted to create a collection of games that you won’t want to hide away when not in use,’ says CEO, Teemu Kiiski. ‘They will blend in with your favourite design items and become conversation starters, but they also work as fully functional objects.’

The games, instruments, and playthings of PELATA are designed to be joyful, aligned with the shop’s mission to ‘fill the world with Nordic Happiness’. Local materials and craftsmanship, features valued highly in Nordic culture, are further embodied across the collection in a tactile and engaging way.
