UK’s biggest graduate design event New Designers returns to london for 2023

Immediate Media brings 3,000 creative graduates to New Designers (ND) – UK’s largest design event. The two-week showcase celebrates emerging creative talent, spanning ceramics, fashion, textiles, furniture, jewelry design, and more, with a focus on creativity, original ideas, and sustainability. The exhibition that attracts design enthusiasts worldwide, whether student or industry professional, takes place 28 June – 8 July 2023 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.

Since its inception in 1985, New Designers (ND) has helped launch the careers of some of the UK’s most prolific designers including Bethan Gray, Jay Osgerby, Stella McCartney and Lee Broom. The annual showcase of UK’s most innovative emerging design talent continues to provide a stage for over 3,000 graduates to present their visionary ideas with exposure to the public and industry professionals that are looking to source the most cutting-edge talent, crafts, and designs. The event takes place over two weeks, with different disciplines that include fashion, textiles, furniture, product design, illustration, and more.

shining light on upcoming design businesses

 

New Designers’ curated space ND Selects is dedicated to shining a light on new businesses within the design industry. Trend-seeking visitors who attend this section can expect to see products that are fresh to the market, from up-and-coming designers. This area is always sought out by leaders of the field who are looking to commission or invest in the latest products while each exhibitor is hand-selected by a panel of experts. For 2023, the curator is Louisa Pacifico, founder of Future Icons.

The 2023 event sees the return of the New Designers Awards Program, the prestigious accolade presented by leading brands like Hallmark, Joseph Joseph, Anglepoise, Tatty Devine and Habitat. The show comprises over 30 awards, each of which offering different prizes and industry opportunities to help the forward-thinking innovators to transition into the professional world.

ND Futures is the name given to New Designers schools program, which offers guidance to 15-18 year-olds, and encourages consideration of a future career in design. For 2023, the platform expands with ND Futures Fund, allowing visitors to donate at checkout to support the attendance of underprivileged school children to visit the event and help start their career journey.

CONNECTingVISITORS WITH LEADING BRANDS

 

The anticipated talks and workshops program, ND Educates, returns as well. Experts offer insights into the latest trends and discuss key themes like designing with the cost of living crisis, innovation in sustainable design and the circular economy, and diversity in design. Panel discussions take place led by editors from Creative Review and Design Week, and designers from Habitat. Moreover, leading creatives Tom Faulkner and Louisa Pacifico discuss their careers to date, while artist/graphic designer June Minyama-Smithson gives sessions on designing for optimism and overcoming creative jealousy.
