nendo swaps screws for magne-hinge customizable glasses

nendo has designed ‘magne-hinge’ glasses, a pair of frames whose hinges function on magnets rather than usual screws. the 0.8mm carved titanium oculars are held in place by layered magnetic pieces, hooked to each other at the hinge. easily snapping apart, the frames can be fitted with a unique variety of different colored temples, available in various materials and styles, which can be clicked into place. the bespoke lenses allow the user individuality, creativity and choice in an otherwise static accessory, mixing and matching patterns and hues until the desired look is achieved. ‘magne-hinge’, presented at milan design week 2014, are sold at seibu department stores in japan exclusively from april 2014.
