nendo has designed ‘H-horse’ for kartell, a child’s rocking horse that references urban-scale structural qualities and materials. the design draws from the shape and form of steel ‘H-beams’, used in large built works like skyscrapers and bridges. strong and highly efficient, these architectural elements form the capital letter ‘H’ in a cross section, giving the structure its mechanical strength.

by applying this concept directly to a child’s rocking horse for salone del mobile 2016, nendo has created a playful object for kartell that displays the characteristics of both functionality and strength — even with a simplistic use of materials. in keeping with his overall creative approach that sees clever interpretations of the everyday, nendo reconsiders this architectural component as a whimsical and practical product.
