nendo‘s hybrid polycarbonate-fabric suitcase ‘kame’ draws its structural resemblance from a tortoise, after which it is named in japanese. the design is defined by a light, plastic hard shell, that is contrasted by a soft, fabric lid that unlike most luggage, unzips from both the top, as well as the sides; making it easy to take things in and out of the carrying case when it’s upright. created for fabbrica pelletterie milano, the cover can be easily opened and closed by rolling it to the side, and secured with an elasticized band, which doubles as a fastener for when the suitcase is not in use. additionally, this unique feature can be easily coiled up neatly so that ‘kame’ can be opened even in tight spaces like cars, and crowded bus or airplane corridors. on the interior, there is a lining that comes with two mesh pockets that are easily configured to accommodate contents of different volumes.

‘kame’ is sealed using a cable lock in combination with a ring zipper that makes it easy to hook your finger through and open. the clasp also allows you to lock the suitcase to a post or handrail like a bicycle, for times when you need to take your eyes off of your suitcase for a moment. a fun detail is that when the lock’s number ‘0’ is a smiley face.

nendo’s ‘kame’ suitcase collection is available in four colors: eclipse blue, shiro white, sun orange and wasabi green.
