nendo has completed the design of two high-end retail outlets for theory in los angeles, part of an extensive collaboration with the new york-based fashion company. developed to reflect the brand’s approach of fusing functionality with casual and contemporary trends, the interiors combine elements of new york-style loft living with simple and practical materials, establishing a sense of ease and tranquility.

special consideration was payed to circulation routes within the stores, ensuring their occupants are able to shop in a natural and relaxed manner. this strategy involved studying flows of traffic, in a similar way to an urban planner, so that pedestrian movements were accounted for.

in both shops more space has been allocated for dressing rooms than is typical, while an additional volume, serving as a buffer zone between the cubicles and the main store, allows customers to try on clothes at their leisure without interrupting other shoppers.

nendo’s association with theory goes beyond los angeles with outlets open in london, paris, beijing, shanghai, tokyo and osaka. the japanese practice has approached each project in the same way, creating a series of refined retail facilities across the globe.
