naoto fukasawa's 'wuggy' baby bouncer draws from babushka stacking doll contours

naoto fukasawa has designed the ‘wuggy’ bouncer for maternity product manufacturer pigeon, as a comfortable seat with a babushka doll-like contour that envelopes the baby’s body tightly. taking both aesthetics and functionality into account, the design prioritizes safety, comfort, and convenience, to make both parents and toddlers happy.

created by naoto fukasawa for pigeon, ‘wuggy’ takes its name after the concept of a baby playing happily and doing a boogie-woogie dance. the product is designed as a three-dimensional sewn seat and curvy frame formed to wrap the baby’s body firmly as if it were inside a babushka doll. the head pillow inside the seat supports the baby’s head efficiently, while it can also be adjusted according to the infant’s growth and physique.

the bouncer is wrapped in urethane, providing a soft surface that protects the baby’s arms and legs even if they accidentally bump on the solid frame. meanwhile, the three-layered seat provides a fluffy environment with a quick-drying feature that keeps toddlers comfortable. in addition, the T-shaped buckle-up belt keeps the baby secure while adding a distinct decorative element to the bouncer. 

the ‘wuggy’ bouncer, which according to fukasawa ‘is a mysterious attraction that allows parents and children to spend time together’, is available in four colors. it will be available for online purchase in july 2021, and it will be on sale at major baby specialty stores nationwide in october 2021.
