japanese goods company MUJI has repurposed a tourist bus to sell their products to people living in mountainous areas. accompanying the opening of MUJI naoetsu — the world’s largest MUJI store located in tokyo’s naoetsu shopping center — the MUJI to go initiative aims to generate regional revitalization. aimed at people with difficulties reaching the city, the initiative will also make sure to reach areas with older adult populations.

called the MUJI to go bus, ryohin keikaku plans to start moving products around the country in august, going full-scale in september. MUJI clothes, stationary, toiletries, cleaning and cooking supplies and daily necessities like food will be sold on the sightseeing bus. through the mobile sales, MUJI will also talk to local residents and listen to their needs and worries aiming to create a sustainable community where they can help each other by fostering new relationships.

the MUJI to go bus is a sightseeing bus previously owned by the niigata bus company, kubiki motor co. which is affiliated with ryohin keikaku. the same plan will also be applied in sakata city, in the yamagata prefecture from june.
