MSCHF unveils BWD shoe, a pair of sneakers that can be worn backward like sandals

MSCHF is back at it again!

First, there’s the pair of Astroboy-inspired Big Red Boots. Now, MSCHF wants streetwear enthusiasts and its fans to wear their stylish kicks on both sides. Meet BWD Shoe, the latest pair of sneakers from the art collective whose shoe design can be worn forward or backward.

If worn forward, BWD Shoe look just like ordinary sneakers with orange suede heel color. But if worn backward, the pair of sneakers becomes sandals. Either way, the user’s feet are protected only halfway since their toes are poking through the other end’s mouth. The reversible shoes pose as 2-in-1 kicks, and ditching summer sandals for BWD Shoe may just come to the fans’ minds now that it’s possible.

‘Life can only be understood backward but must be lived forward. That’s why you need two pairs of shoes, one for living and one for understanding,’ says MSCHF, who adds that the presence of BWD Shoe means FWD Shoe might also exist. The collective might be hinting at their future plans to devise a new pair of shoes with a ‘forward’ concept, but they may also indicate the existence of the normal-looking shoes everyone wears every day.

Chunky soles for MSCHF’s BWD Shoe

The chunky gum soles of BWD Shoe by MSCHF are thick enough to protect the wearer’s feet. On the sandal side, the low cut exposes the ankle of the wearer, and the sole looks flatter compared to the sneaker side, whose heel part slopes a bit to add a jolt in step when the wearer walks.

On April 8th, 2023, MSCHF posted Childish Gambino wearing BWD Shoe while watching basketball playoffs, and with the shoes making rounds on social media, the public might pick up the recent trend in no time.  MSCHF unveils BWD shoe on April 11th, 2023 and retails at 135 USD.
