mother-of-pearl lacquerware & stainless steel form korean chair collection

following the first series of chair designs by byungsub kim and minchae kang, the ‘stainless-wood’ chair no.2 series combines stainless steel and najeonchilgi – mother-of-pearl lacquerware. the coming design forms an intricate chair, adding a sharp contrasting effect.

the blend of najeonchilgi and stainless steel frames a piece of unfamiliar furniture by byungsub kim and minchae kang creating a strong structural contrast. najeonchilgi is one of the traditional korean crafting techniques, while the combination of traditional korean craftsmanship and unfamiliar materials is a new interpretation of ‘korean things’.
