since its inception, the moncler genius project has asked designers coming from diverse cultures to create capsule collections inspired by the iconic moncler puffer jacket. for his collection, london-based designer richard quinn visited the retro-futurism of the sixties. with clear influences like stanley kubrick’s 2001: a space odyssey and twiggy, the collection perfectly blends maximalism, bold colors and couture shapes. of course, quinn’s flower prints — part of his design DNA — were not left behind.

‘I was really interested in the idea of what the future looked like in the past, especially in the 1960s,’ richard quinn told vogue australia. ‘it was very 2001: a space odyssey-mood inspired. I really wanted the prints to be very retro and bold. the shapes and techniques [were also elements] we really wanted to push, for example, the chain mail, the faux fur and how we applied the down.’

the bold opulence of richard quinn’s collection for moncler has been staged in a white, brightly lit stage recalling kubrick’s sci-fi movie. daisy, rainbow and zebra prints emerge from this void, in typical puffer moncler form defined by huge skirts cinched to the body. overall, and as the brand itself states it, this collection is ‘an otherworldly exploration of uncontrolled prints clashed against a cinematic setting.’

‘to be part of something so groundbreaking and new is always so exciting,’ quinn comments to vogue on being part of the moncler genius project. ‘the contemporaries in this project are people I really respect so it’s nice to see all of us having such strong points of view displayed under one roof. the event itself is always so bold and such a powerful display of creativity!when working with moncler, it’s about bringing the vision to life and creativity and vision is never compromised, which is so refreshing!’
