MINI and republic of fritz hansen reinterpret the drop chair by arne jacobsen

five years on from their first joint venture, MINI and danish furniture company republic of fritz hansen have collaborated for the second time. their latest endeavor will be presented during the blickfang design exhibition in copenhagen, which pays homage to the drop chair by arne jacobsen with a reinterpreted MINI aesthetic. ‘along with our rigorous design standards, the textiles used in the mini have to meet a whole range of requirements,’ says annette baumeister, head of MINI design color and trim. ‘the materials must be timeless, comfortable and functional. transferring this expertise to a furniture classic was an exciting challenge.’

the seat cushions with their stitched inserts simulates a classic MINI automotive interior, while contrast stitching and colored piping reflects on the brand’s familiar design language. the chairs are made from premium fulled-nappa leather and features a piped insert that references the seats of the original hatchback from 1959.
