Miguel Saboya composes QUOIN multi-functional furniture series

QUOIN is a series of modular, interactive and multi-functional kindergarten furniture created by Brazilian designer Miguel Saboya. Commissioned by the Lisbon-based school, Cooperativa A Torre to furnish its new prefab classroom, Saboya creates a versatile series of building blocks that can be assembled for varying play-and-learning environments. The QUOIN blocks combine atop a plywood trolley facilitating the creation of diverse classroom structures such as benches, stools, tables, and shelves.

The versatile furniture series offers a range of play scenarios, such as hiding spaces, stairs, bridges, and adventure trails, that challenge children to imagine and create their own built environment. ‘Quoin allows children to imagine a new kindergarten every day for a more playful learning experience’, shares designer Miguel Saboya. The QUOIN series consists of five modular furniture pieces of different shapes and sizes as well as a trolley made out of plywood with Lego-like interlocking systems that can be assembled and disassembled easily by both children and adults.
