the design of the ‘mavari‘ cloak considers a mulipurpose lifestyle: outdoor recreation, unpredictable weather changes and ease of portability are important parts of an active, everyday routine and the objects that guide it.
a team of designers — juan carlos viso, bryan capriles, oscar solorzano — have conceived a multifunctional, waterproof surf cloak that transforms into a backpack, among other functional modes of use, and are seeking funding on kickstarter to make the project a reality. options include the dry mode, to dry off after your session in the water; change mode, to re-outfit in and out of your wetsuit; backpack mode for portability; cruise mode for everyday use; and shelter mode, to resist the elements of cold, light rain.

‘mavari skin’ is the tripple layer fabric that gives the design its reversible quality. it has waterproof, windproof, absorbent, breathable and antibacterial properties — one side of the fabric is waterproof, while the other is absorbent microfiber. these layers are bonded to a membrane that is both resistant to moisture and breathable. additionally, an embedded code allows the wearer to use their cloak as a scanner, connecting with friends, sharing information and even providing discounts on future products.
