london-based architecture firm and design gallery matter of stuff, has unveiled the ‘lithosphere coffee table’ — the first product in their collection ‘curated by MOS’. the design is the result of a collaboration between london-based studio deFORM, and italian marble manufacturer cianciullo marmi.
stone detail
the table draws influence from the various layers that compose the earth’s crust and upper mantle; visualizing them via four stone slabs sourced from specific geographic points in italy. each element is subdivided further into four concentric units that nestle seamlessly within one another — much like the russian matryoshka doll. the ‘lithosphere coffee table’ can be used in its default composition or four other variations, all which can be achieved using the sixteen included parts.
