at maison & objet’s 2018 fall edition, swedish design company mateus launches a new collection of handmade and hand-painted ceramics. the collection sees the company collaborate with french designer sam baron and costas voyatzis, founder of the yatzer design portal. comprising plates, a bowl, a jug, and a cup in different sizes, the ceramic objects are characterized by their subtle color palette and stylistically pure design language.

with the new collection, sam baron and costas voyatzis pay tribute to mateus and the company’s 25 years in ceramics. ‘we want to bring to the fore the origins of ceramics, one of mankind’s earliest art forms, which mateus has taken to a new level,’ explain baron and voyatzis. ‘the contrast between the unglazed structure and the hand-painted color palette gives the pieces a contemporary feel without detracting from their handcrafted appeal.’

titled ‘mateus meets sam baron meets yatzer’, the collection marks a different approach for the ceramics company who typically employ more color and decorative patterns. ‘the starting point for all our collections is that they can all be mixed and matched,’ adds teresa mateus lundahl, founder and CEO of mateus. ‘this is something I think the design duo has been successful with in the new collection, while creating a new, contemporary design language.’ the collection will be presented at the 2018 fall edition of maison et objet.
