Marset is famed for creating lighting designs that combine simplicity with highly decorative appearances. As the Barcelona-based brand continues to creatively illuminate the in and outdoors, Marset collaborates with designers PerezOchando for The W. The shape-shifting, lightweight lamp suspends from the ceiling with an interior-defining presence. It functions to meet the changing needs of the user by expanding for a wide ambience and folding for focused lighting.

OchandoPerez’s industrial inspiration

Marset’s The W sources its inspiration from the industrial past. Designers Pedro Ochando and Claudia Pérez took interest in the shape of an old-fashion winding machine, which was previously used to wind thread or wire around an axis and form a ball. Its distinctive yet structurally slim shape evokes both a vertical and horizontal movement in its appearance.

The suspension lamp reveals an extremely graphic profile hanging from the ceiling. Its black form has a central main, vertical shaft with a number of rods that emerge. Each rod has a suspended spotlight at its tip that projects light downwards or in a large, sharp beam. The cylindrical spotlights are encircled by an inner ring in either ivory, terracotta or gold in color.

As well as its distinctive appearance, The W lamp has a unique function. Its large form is flexible to adapt to different requirements in interior spaces. From 2 meters to 1.2m in diameter, the lamp can be expanded to increase the width of ambience or folded to create a more focused illumination.
