marco de masi is an italian product designer that develops freelance projects in his own studio based in rome, where he collaborates with brands in the furniture, product and lighting sectors. his latest creation, a table called ‘volta’, was made for officine tamborrino, an exclusive brand for contemporary steel furniture items.

made with steel and wood, the ‘volta’ table has an industrial style and a strong material contrast that is determined by the alteration of a cold, hard, two-dimensional monochromatic artificial material (steel), and a substance that is natural, warm, soft, volumetric and veined (wood). the top consists of two metallic sheets spliced and stiffened along the central axis by a solid beech beam which serves as a symbolic keystone between the two halves. this technical solution is also an aesthetic motif and guide for the definition of the position and location. thanks to a system of cuts and folds, the same metal sheets of the tabletop extend to form the four tapering box-shaped legs.
