lladró was founded in 1953 by three brothers – juan, josé and vicente lladró – in the village of almácera near valencia. today the company employs more than 2000 people and lladró porcelain hand-sculpted figurines are sold all over the world. lladró announced the re-cyclos project in 2005, where contemporary designers create new objects out of the brand’s classical pieces, reinvigorating the image of the company and appealing to a much broader and fashionable audience. in its first edition, in 2006, the spanish creative team culdesac created the ‘reciclar y transformar‘ collection out of traditional christmas ornaments. in 2006 the company brought the spanish designer jaime hayón on board, since then he is the artistic advisor of the brand. in 2007 the german designer bodo sperlein created items of jewelry and lighting and in 2008 the bodo sperlein’s collection has been extended through a series of objects inspired by the beauty and elegance of horses’ physique – the equus collection. also in 2008 british designers committee created the ‘evolution of love‘ series. always in 2008 jaime hayón presented the ‘fantasy collection‘. a carefully studied combination of the familiar (love, the family, childhood) and fantastical themes (the circus, dreams, the magic of the unexpected).
