serving as an international prize platform for lighting innovation since 2013, LG invites designers, architects and enthusiasts to enter the LG OLED design competition 2017 from september 11th to november 30th, 2017. as well as being specially endorsed by red dot, the award coincides with the brand’s release of the first commercialized flexible OLED light panels.

the LG OLED design competition 2017 focuses on the theme, ‘new light of life’, to explore three different concepts; life, human, and flexibility & creativity. life asks for personal interpretations of life to be incorporated into designs. human proposes design in accordance with LG’s design philosophy of ‘human centric care and empathy’ and to emphasize the natural illumination of OLEDs. flexibility & creativity looks for designs that integrate into our modern day lifestyle. the competition is divided into two categories; ‘lighting design’ and ‘space design’, and specifies that flexible LG OLED light panels with 0.41 mm thin 20 mm bending radius characteristics are used.

OLED design entries will be reviewed by a panel of world renowned judges, including peter zec, founder and CEO of red dot; paul joe, functional expert at LG electronics; sung soo park, vice-president and head of OLED lighting business division at LG display; italian designer stefano giovanmoni; product designer ichiro iwasaki; torsten valeur, design director and head of david lewis designers; stefan stark. a prize of $11,000 USD is set for each category, as well as the three winners also receiving a flight ticket to exhibit at ‘light + building 2018’ in frankfurt, germany.
