layer x resonate present the ‘lightvision’ meditation headset
launching at design miami 2021, the ‘lightvision’ meditation headset by benjamin hubert from LAYER design is the wellness product of a new normal. created for US startup resonate, the headset features an LED light matrix allowing users to enter a powerful meditative state, regarldess of their experience level. speaking of a new normal, this kind of immersive design comes in response to recent global stressors that hijacked day-to-day reality:
‘we live in an increasingly hectic world where we are constantly inundated with digital interactions, the media, and – more recently – the impact of a pandemic. in this world, mindfulness and meditation is more relevant than ever before. finding the time to practice or to obtain the knowledge and experience needed to practice efficiently, however, is no easy task. ‘resonate lightvision’ allows you to quickly reach a deep meditative state, effortlessly,’ shares hubert.
the cutting-edge science of neural entrainment is used to optimize traditional meditation techniques
combining traditional meditation with neural entrainment
as a startup, resonate uses the cutting-edge science of neural entrainment to optimize meditative experiences. with that said, together with LAYER, the team combined – into the headset system – traditional meditation techniques with the proven benefits of vibration, sound, and light to change the frequency and pattern of thoughts. according to studies conducted by the startup, fifteen minutes of daily meditation is as effective as medication at treating depression – and users report a 51% decrease in stress and anxiety levels after one 20-minute resonate session.
to trigger such deep relaxation, the LED light matrix translates videos of the natural world into an ever-changing sequence of biomorphic patterns visible through closed eyes and proven to activate the brain’s frequency-following response.

cloaking the high-tech device with calming design features
additionally, the soft and welcoming design of the product sets a new standard for meditation. indeed, the calming and minimal style encourages a restful state of mind and evokes the language of fashion accessories. its textile-wrapped exterior casing closely follows the contours of the face to allow for complete immersion – with an adjustable strap elevated by metallic branding details – while the more progressive and futuristic design of the interior casing features the high-tech LED matrix display. by offering a clear balance between ‘soft’ and ‘high-tech’ accents, users can effectively acclimate to such a new and unusual experience.
the design also expresses the product’s functionality. lighting strips, for example, frame the internal edges of the headset and cast lights onto the users’ face to create a sort of ‘do not disturb’ signal. meanwhile, when turning on the LED matrix, users can adjust the brightness and volume of the soundtrack via an intuitive, ergonomically accessible capacitive interface on the underside of the casing. this interface strip features a power button and USB-C charging port as well.
