konstantin grcic has been collaborating with PLANK for about a decade, exploring and working with the italian company on technical and material research, with a specific focus on the area of innovations related to plastic furniture production. for 2014, rather than debut a new product, the german designer has elaborated on his existing miura collection of stool and table, consisting of a stool and table, by refining the materials from which they are made, enhancing their details and offering a selection of colors (yellow green, light blue, wine red) not previously offered.

konstantin grcic incoporated formal characteristics in the miura collection of stool for PLANK — coming from the need to create a seating option for contract and domestic environments. its shape is dynamic, and its proportions have been fueled through its construction and ergonomics, resulting in a powerful visual and functional harmony.

the bar stool’s accompanying table has been realized for use in a variety of commercial and domestic settings, and is now available with more expansive table tops. the design is supported by a three-leg steel frame that is defined by an elliptical profile.

PLANK has worked on various projects with architects, who have requested the ‘miura’ table in larger sizes,’ says CEO michael plank. ‘this was the key motivation for the development, and in doing so it was fundamentally essential that any additions to our product ranges retain the authenticity of the original design. therefore we have worked closely with konstantin grcic to implement a more comprehensive plan without compromising the ‘aesthetic or structural integrity of the table.’

the table tops which were previously available in ∅60cm, ∅110cm and 70x70cm dimensions, now come in ∅80cm and ∅90cm diameters, and are made from metal, MDF or HPL (high pressure laminate). these are all folding which makes them easier to store, with the base of the larger versions (100cm and 110cm fixed planes) made heavier in order to improve stability. the higher ‘miura’ table has also been expanded with the addition of a new surface for the ∅80cm option.
