mimicking tall grass, the slats on the ‘hull sofa’ by canadian studio knauf and brown create a semi-private screen for its users. giving a sense of security, the high-back piece of furniture can be used for quiet moments to make a phone call or skype chat between talks at a convention, a break with a friend in a busy mall, or to read a few chapters of a book during a long layover. people are given the ability to see out without feeling too exposed, the framing slats can also be parted by hand to give occupants a better view of their surroundings. the semi-private screen allows passersby to see whether the sofa is occupied, while still obscuring those sitting on it. the flexible design can be formed together in multiple configurations to cater for small or larger groups. the slats are made from white ash and can easily be replaced by sliding out the aluminum key.
