Dare to Dream Design Awards

Melco Crown Entertainment, with the support of DESIGNBOOM, has launched its signature CSR series “Dare to Dream” by presenting the Dare to Dream Design Awards themed with 『着物×きもの×KIMONO』. “Dare to Dream” allows one to make possible what people thought impossible and to inspire individuals to aspire to their potential. By launching the design awards, we aim at preserving and promoting the understanding of the history and beauty of the traditional Japanese kimono while bringing new possibilities and sustainability to kimono.

This competition is open to applicants from every country in the world – from professionals, students, to design-enthusiasts. Registration is free.

01 – KIMONO – SAVE the LEGACY, CREATE the FUTURE

In recent years, less and less people have been wearing kimonos, and this has been having a great impact on the kimono industry, and society’s understanding and appreciation of the culture intertwined and embodied in the traditional Japanese garment. As a result, the trade has been facing a crisis, with related craftsmanship and special techniques which have been passed down through previous generations, slowly being lost and forgotten.

This competition aims to revive this unique culture and practice, as well as to develop new possibilities and avenues of creative exploration, traditions and production techniques related to the kimono. We are hoping that this project will attract more attention and support for the Japanese traditional culture.

We are seeking sustainable ideas which bring new appreciation to our notion of the KIMONO and the artistry and handiwork involved; and to preserve the long-established skills of kimono design and fabric.
