the ‘wire mesh light’ by osaka and malmö-based studio kenji fukushima design is a round pendant lamp that projects an intricate pattern across its surroundings. the piece fuses modern metal spinning manufacturing with a traditional kanaami technique, which was originally used for making cookware used in kyoto cuisine from the heian period in japan (ad 794 -1185).

 

the lampshade is made from copper and different methods were applied to create the upper and lower parts. the top piece conceals the light source within it, which is radiated through the mesh piece below.
