a collection of products for the brand pleats please issey miyake, in collaboration with japanese graphic designer kazumasa nagai, were recently launched. each item is based on motif of the five animals featured poster ‘life’, which was painted by nagai in 1993. to celebrate and promote the release, a one-week pop-up shop was imagined by keisuke fujiwara.

in translating the series into a spatial experience, fujiwara realized that the playful geometries of the graphics could shape various architectural details. rectangular objects mimicking the beast-like forms have been extruded into occupiable sculptures or cut out partitions that manipulate views across the plain white gallery, create hanger racks, or function as shelves to display furniture. these characteristics are accompanied by a deliberate use of plan white, contrasting the vibrant colors of the creatures to bring their two-dimensional representations to life.
