kameh’s chairs debut at collectible new york fair 2024

KAMEH, the Dubai-based collectible design brand, unveils its 2024 creation, the 0.5 Editions, at the Collectible New York Fair, running from September 5-8, 2024. This limited series of five chairs marks KAMEH’s debut at the event, making it the first UAE-based designer to showcase at this internationally acclaimed platform. Inspired by nature and a personal journey of renewal, the collection presents a distinctive aesthetic that merges tradition, artistry, and environmental consciousness. Each piece is hand-crafted and finished with the traditional Japanese wood-burning technique, Shou Sugi Ban, resulting in a unique charred design.

collectible design ROOTED in nature, humans & imperfection

Launched in 2022 and based in Dubai, KAMEH is dedicated to creating interior home pieces that merge function with art. Each collection by the collectible design brand is a reflection of the designer’s philosophy – centered on nature, the human self, and the beauty found in imperfection. The designer behind KAMEH remains anonymous, allowing the focus to remain on the artistry and the stories the pieces tell. This anonymity is a statement on privacy, which the brand views as the ultimate luxury in today’s world, free from the pressures of scrutiny and judgment.

0.5 editions: a forest in a desert landscape

KAMEH’s 0.5 Editions series is a profound exploration of the connection between East and West, envisioning what a forest might look like in a desert landscape. Drawing inspiration from John Muir’s words, ‘And into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul,’ the collection mirrors the designer’s personal journey from burnout to renewal.

‘Before venturing into the forest, I often find myself burnt out, seeking renewal and inspiration. This state of being ‘burnt out’ mirrors the transformation and rediscovery I experience in nature,’ says the creator behind the 0.5 Editions.

Each chair in the collection is hand-sculpted from ash wood and undergoes a traditional Japanese technique known as Shou Sugi Ban (wood burning). This method not only enhances the longevity of the pieces but also imbues them with a distinctive, textured finish. Limited to only 10 pieces per design, the 0.5 Editions is more than an exclusive furniture line – it is a commentary on environmental concerns.

With wildfires responsible for the loss of 255 million hectares of forest worldwide, the collection stands as a reminder of the importance of preserving and honoring nature. By integrating artisanal techniques and profound symbolism, KAMEH’s work embodies the intersection of artistry, tradition, and sustainability, offering unique furniture for those who value design with depth and meaning.
