jozeph forakis unveils CLX96 luxury yacht with 'portuguese terrazza' outdoor areas

milan-based designer jozeph forakis, in collaboration with earl alfaro of naval architecture studio alfaro design, to create a 29-meter-long luxury yacht called ‘CLX96’ for new brand CL yachts. showcasing an iconic silhouette, the boat generates a spacious, comfortable environment with fluid circulation and large ‘portuguese terrazza’ inspired outdoor areas. the final version of the project is to be presented at next year’s fort lauderdale international boat show (FLIBS).

although as an experienced multidisciplinary designer, jozeph forakis‘ background includes a wide range of projects, he had never looked into pleasure boating before. therefore, in order for the CLX96 concept to be completed, a courageous ‘thinking outside the box’ move was needed on the part of the creators. this new vision is different from preconceptions of yacht design (both for the exterior and interior design and structurally), with the designers mentioning that ‘CLX96’s genome is a crossroads of skills, sectors, and cultures’.

the overall design for CLX96 derives from the idea of observing life at sea and then reconsidering ideas of space, comfort, and conviviality. ‘I wanted the feeling of being on the ocean to follow you everywhere, inside and out’ the designer shares. ‘of course, comfort is a priority on a luxury yacht – still, I want those on board to always be aware that they are on a ‘ship’ built to transport them through space and time’ he adds. the sense of fluid movement towards the future is always present, with seamless curved and fluid surfaces, and a mix of high quality traditional and innovative materials.

aboard the new CLX96 yacht, forakis has incorporated two unique open-air spaces with the names ‘terrazza portuguese’, and ‘piazza del sole’. ‘piazza del sole’ is a spacious outdoor area on the foredeck with comfortable sunbathing loungers that turn into a circular table arrangement. on the skydeck, forward of the pilothouse, the ‘portuguese terrazza’, a first of its kind space that creates a new area for relaxation or entertaining. the pilothouse features a reverse angled windshield, inspired by offshore ships, with large windows on both sides and an electrified movable bulkhead that allows for a 360 ° open view in fine weather.
