the ‘hard candy series’ by taiwanese designer jojo chuang is made using a flexible foaming agent and dyes to mimic the movement of flowing pigments. the armchair and stools combine handmade crafting methods – transforming a graphic image into a 3D object. the process of manipulating the materials means that each piece will turn out to be one of a kind, just like a painting. the project explores the technique of molding to develop the structure, by controlling the base of the stool top, the foaming agent is formed into a certain shape and spills naturally outwards and over the top. the outcome generates an anti-gravity pattern that displays the characteristics of naturally flowing pigments.
