the ‘1000and1 lokta paper’ series is a collection of products by german designer johannes hemann that interprets traditional mold techniques from nepal. the project, assisted by sarah augé follows the original way of making nepalese lokta paper, where sheets are created by pulling them through a frame – an adapted structure with straws developed in order to produce the three dimensional shapes.

the products are constructed by making an impression mark of the desired object, such as a vase or a bottle. following this the device is taken to a basin with the lokta pulp and the paper shape pulled through. the technique enables a variety of different items to be created, with each side producing interesting patterns.
