south korean designer jay sae jung oh has added new additions to her ‘savage series’ with a series of black edition pieces. the sofa is assembled and wrapped with individual cowhide leather threads around ever available surface area. discarded mass manufactured objects, which are the main material for the series, conspicuously transforms the product into an unexpected fresh form with detailed handcraft value.

these two conflicting aspects make a statement about a reconsideration of the disposable culture. the work is a testament to the scope of innovation, invention and beauty evident in even the most mundane, everyday objects that society takes for granted and put to waste. the ‘savage’ series black edition is debuted by johnson trading gallery at collective design fair during new york design week 2016 from may 4th – 8th.
