jasper morrison constructs tokyo's japan GOOD DESIGN award store to mirror a house-like setting

jasper morrison has designed the first japan GOOD DESIGN award store in tokyo to resemble a typical house and garden layout. the space – which showcases award-winning products developed for the prize – features multiple shelving units, concrete floors and muted colors which allow the items to take center stage within the store.

jasper morrison conceived a logical and straightforward strategy for the good design award shop by allowing the function of each object to dictate its location. the kitchen utensils, for example, are located in the dining room, furniture items in the living room and other gadgets and objects in the hobby area. these series of zones aim to act as a home, encouraging the visitor to experience the store in a whole new way. 

the shop presents a concise and carefully chosen selection of recent and older GOOD DESIGN award winners from over 44,000 products. the store which is located in tokyo’s rail station features an identity designed by masaaki hiromura. the curation of the store was led by yu yamada who worked with the space to showcase the diversity of all of the items on display.
