defying the formal conventions of outdoor furniture, ‘gardenias’ offers a softer, more curvaceous appearance — svelte, subtle and feminine–which speaks of its designer’s characteristic style. with this collection jaime hayon has created a set of benches and chairs, as well as vases and planters which do not display the typically rigid, square-shaped and bulky forms associated with metal garden furnishings. developed for BD barcelona, the pieces, though made from a material which seems unyielding, flow with organic and natural, delicate shapes. in conceiving ‘gardenias’, the spanish designer wanted to revive classical elements with something contemporary–visually light, but solid and resistant. the cast and extruded aluminium components have been calculated with precision to support the demands of commercial use, and are finished with alesta decorative coatings which are known for their quality, color range and cool finish–when exposed to the sun, the temperature of the protected surface is reduced by up to 20 degrees celsius. combined with textile accessories the seating objects are perfect for indoor use.
