the recognizable forms that have characterized the artifacts and architecture of ancient rome, were the starting point for jaime hayon’s ‘new roman’ collection for paola c. presented at maison&objet 2015, the highlight of the family of robust, but delicate pieces is a symbolic bowl, which references the structural achievements made in the construction of the grand amphitheatre, the colosseum, in the italian capital.

‘new roman’ is comprised of amphorae (two-handled vessel), large and small vases, goblets, carafes and shallow bowls made from glass, ceramic or metal, are supported by pedestals, resembling artifacts that adorned the manors of imperial rome.

the unconventional creativity of spanish designer is expressed through each form, realized in accordance with the idea of sophisticated and simple beauty, in which he has instinctively created a unique and timeless collection for the italian brand. his playfulness in particular shines with ‘augustus’, a silver-plated carafe with a decorative nose and eyes, that pays a subtle tribute to his ironic and childlike vitality which is a signature of his creative productions.
