the ‘tubular’ family by ingo maurer welcomes its newest member

with the ‘tubular balance’, ingo maurer introduces the newest member of its ‘tubular’ lamp family, brought to you from the creative mind of sebastian hepting. presenting a linear dynamic character, the intricate glass design takes shape as a hybrid between a pendant light and a table lamp. the light connects to the ceiling with a thin rope and stands on a luminaire base, acting as a counterweight via a tension cable, and keeping the transparent glass tube suspended in mid-air. measuring 125 cm long, the luminaire covers a large area, providing an ideal solution for desk or office lighting.

playing around with physical forces

the new design by ingo maurer (find more here) uses an unprocessed borosilicate glass tube, in which numerous LEDs are strung together like pearls. meanwhile, a colored textile cable wraps around the linear tube, creating a unique composition. ‘tubular balance plays a graceful balancing act that combines an air of weightlessness with stability,’ shares sebastian hepting. ‘it does not need to be stabilized by an arm due to an ingenious system of delicate tension cables and seems to defy the laws of gravity,’ he adds.

drawing influence from the mooring lines of a ship, that are tied around the marine bollards, the textile cable encircles the base of the lamp to make its way upwards to the glass pipe. customers can choose between a red or a white cable, while more special colors might be available upon request.

a multipurpose lamp that fits into any setting

thanks to its variable nature, ‘tubular balance’ lends a versatile element to any environment it is introduced into. the glass luminaire offers ambient lighting to both private and professional settings, as a table light at home, in the kitchen, in restaurants, over a bar, in hotels or boutiques.

no ceiling outlet is required for the multipurpose linear luminaire, as it can be simply plugged into a socket. the glass tube can also be rotated 360° in the cable loops, allowing for a precise tabletop lighting setup. it can even be positioned as a wall washer or uplight, accommodating a wide range of needs and scenarios.
