ineke hans selects prime cuts of meat for chops cutting boards

ineke hans has designed a series of cutting boards using red recycled plastic sheets, which play upon the materials likening appearance to meat based products. ‘chops’ references this theme through the simple choice of five different silhouettes that each feature pink flesh tones, similar to that of salami or sausage mixture. the subversion between food and the act of preparation, cleverly replaces our original preconception of the kitchen appliance in a humorous, yet sharp and forward thinking design. 

the material plays upon the likening appearance to meat based products

steak, sausage, and drumstick foods define the outline of the chopping boards, which adds a playful element to the collection. the concept is distinctive of the studio, whose early work centered around pictograms and archetypes. the significance of ineke hans‘ work, is the investigation into the the psychological roots of a product, as well as the objects relation to function and space. the studio, translates this concept further in an installation held at the 2016 summer exhibition in park soestdijk. 100 boards were hung from a small pavilion, in order to reference meat based products which dangle from butcher shop ceilings. the project is again a reaffirmation of ineke hans ability to distort and question one’s perception towards a product and it’s relation to a given environment.
