THE JOY OF | is a family venture by Ignas and Lina SURVILA where industrial design meets contemporary fashion to craft a series of experimental handbags. Combining the geometric precision and rationality of industrial design with the emotional appeal of fashion, the project explores creative solutions that evoke a sense of surprise. Crafted from Italian leather and plastic shields brought together with a birch handle, the accessories carry essentials while serving as a statement piece to elevate the everyday experience. The duo’s approach further involves employing bold colors, geometric shapes, playful patterns, asymmetry, unconventional materials, and innovative design solutions which seek to bring functionality alongside joy to their users

THE JOY OF | handbags fuse rationale and creative expression

TJO | Balance handbag, the first of the ten-model collection, features an elegant leather case, a protective plastic cover ensuring item safety, and a wooden handlebar that closes the bag functionally while also adding a natural and personalized touch. Beyond simply creating fashion objects, THE JOY OF | embodies the design duo’s desire to slow down and cherish the design process. ‘Our mission is to tell the story of different worlds but keep innovating and looking for that (in)perfect shape. We’re searching for authenticity, the balance between chaos and order, with an asymmetry to trendy and shiny,’ notes Ignas Survila.

Graduating in design and having worked in leadership positions for international companies, the design duo felt the urge to reconnect with their heritage and create tangible products that bring joy. The journey began with Ignas seeking a unique birthday gift and realizing the scarcity of fresh handbag designs in the market. Inspired by his own vision of a perfect handbag, Ignas decided to create one himself that brought joy to its user, leading to the conception of THE JOY OF |.
