simple yet elegant forms define iittala raami tableware by jasper morrison

‘making good atmosphere is a human instinct which plays a part in improving the quality of our everyday lives,’ says jasper morrison. designed for iitala, the ‘raami’ tableware collection is carefully composed of ceramic, glass and wood pieces that, together, create a good atmosphere for any occasion. like a family of friends, each piece brings something special to the table and to the home.

the iittala ‘raami’ dining collection creates inviting and informal settings. it does so with a focus on the essentials – a common theme of jasper morrison’s work. designed with great attention to detail, the forms evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort whilst a closer look reveals the finer characteristics.

it total, the dining items are composed of four aesthetics. drinking glasses, carafe and tea light candle holders reflect the same fluted, tactile design that creates mersmerizing shades and patterns as light passes through them. secondly, stemware combine considered proportions with simple yet elegant shapes to focus on its main purpose: drinking wine. ceramic items, such as porcelain plates and bowls, feature a curved edge that visualizes a subtle rim detail. finally, wooden serving boards add a new functionality and natural warmth to the collection.

‘I have a feeling that the days of the fully matched tableware sets are over,’ adds morrison. ‘what counts more these days is the atmosphere of the table. I noticed that a table with unmatched well-chosen pieces loosens the formality of a table setting and helps create a more homely and relaxed atmosphere ‘raami’ items work together in an interesting way, influencing not just the atmosphere but the behaviour as well. every item in the ‘raami’ collection is an equal part of the entity, perfect on its own, yet meaningful to the collection.’ iittala’s ‘raami’ collection, which translates to ‘frame’ in finnish, is available from early 2019.
