'iconic icons' is a limited edition pixelated print series depicting famous musicians

raquel f. from digital gallery i’m/poster introduces ‘iconic icons’, a limited pixelated print series depicting famous musicians. the designer uses small symbols replicated hundreds of times, to generate patterns that eventually form the portraits of various acclaimed music stars. 

the print is made of hundreds of gardenias in honor of this iconic legend and her efforts to find beauty in even the darkest of corners of existence

in the ‘iconic icons’ poster collection by raquel f., janis joplin is formed by hundreds of her trademark sunglasses. meanwhile, jimi hendrix’s portrait is created from his flaming guitar that set the world alight, and billie holiday from the gardenia that she wore while singing and breaking the heart of an entire generation.

every time she sang the blues, billie holiday took a single gardenia and wore it

in order to create this limited run of prints, the designer has used the grasshopper software from rhino, a parametric/generative design tool to create patterns and textures in industrial design products and architecture. each print was carefully made along with the london based printer screaming colour with innovative techniques, using digital foil over high-quality paper (supplied by g.f smith).  for raquel f., this project is personal, merging her love for music and design in one. 

the combination of silver digital foil over premium bourdeaux colorplan paper merges a vintage feeling with innovative design techniques

this image made from her oversized sunglasses is a nod to an icon like no other

janis joplin’s trademark sunglasses were the inspiration behind the icon that was pixelated to create her portrait

the print was treated with scodix foil, creating a texturised three-dimensional poster.

this print made of hundreds of burning guitars is an homage to that burning star; each pixel making up a wider picture of the ultimate rock ’n roll icon

jimi hendrix’s playing lit a torch underneath all of his peers forcing even the greatest of players to reevaluate what they thought they knew about blues and rock ’n roll

purple colorplan paper and digital gold foil make up the combination chosen for this iconic jimi hendrix portrait
