Jumgo Creative and BEN MOO reveal tea room installation

Jumgo Creative collaborates with BEN MOO, a traditional custom woodworking brand, on the Chǐ (Foot) tea room installation in Chengdu, China. This project transforms an unused outdoor space next to BEN MOO’s exhibition hall into an experiential area. Inspired by ancient Eastern measurement units, the installation centers around a square with a side length of one chǐ (33.3 centimeters), combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design principles. This tea room offers an expandable and versatile space, with reconfigurable cabinets, tables, seating, and screens, allowing it to adapt to various future scenarios.

Chǐ (foot) project in china revives ancient measurement units

Honoring tradition, the project by Jumgo Creative revives ancient measurement units that were once based on the human body. ‘A hand span is one chǐ, a finger span is one cùn,’  the designers note. The design aims to blend this historical wisdom with modern functionality, creating a small tea room that extends from two dimensions to three. The Chinese studio combines the warmth of wood with the rigidity of metal, incorporating a specially developed lighting system. The installation exemplifies BEN MOO’s dedication to quality and innovation, showcasing their ability to integrate new technologies and trends while maintaining a professional attitude toward craftsmanship.
