hermès presents new home collections within colorful, tile-clad chambers

during milan design week, Hermès presents new home collections at museo della permanente, comprising an eclectic line of objects, furnishings, fabrics, and wallpapers. the 2018-2019 series for the home are presented within an architectural project conceived by charlotte macaux perelman, co-artistic director of hermès maison together with alexis fabry. color, materials and craftsmanship are expressed in seven architectural structures entirely covered with moroccan zellige, a small square tile made of glazed earthenware.

these seven monolithic and monochrome ‘houses’ conceived by charlotte macaux perelman and alexis fabry offer visitors an immersive experience, a dip in color to discover the Hermès home collection. scenography designed by hervé sauvage plays up the graphic symbol of the square with rolls of paper drawn by hand that act as a background to the objects. on the occasion of design week, Hermès presents its new table, ‘a walk in the city’ designed by irish designer nigel peake in a café area. furthermore, during the invitation-opening evening, austrian choreographer willi dorner emphasized the architecture of the site with the live performance of dancers that engage in an athletic interaction with the installation.

throughout the duration of milan design week, hermès activates the urban landscape with ephemeral graffiti. patterns and colors from the new collection are illustrated with chalk on the city pavement and sidewalks across three areas of the city. every morning, beginning at 10:00am, a team of street-artists trace the drawings on the ground and then color them in, each artwork lasting about one day. at night, the graffiti is cleared before reappearing the next morning.
