‘I’ve been using tiles like canvas, to see what happened if you had different bodies of colored clays and you put glazes on the top of them,’ says hella jongerious, ‘so that the utter surface doesn’t look simply colored, but mixed like in an oil painting.’ applying the same glaze on top of differently colored bases, the collection for mutina divides in two macro groups, the light and dark. a matt stripe of colored clay contrasts the polished surface while depending on the combination of base and glaze, the result will always be singular.
in diarama mix different colored glazes are applied on the same black or grey base creating black chroma and grey chroma.
in diarama black and white the glaze applied on the seventh base is respectively black, ‘iron’, or white, ‘chalk’. combined together they create ‘dusk’, the black and white combination.
