the crossboundaries studio, founded by architect harsh boghani, designed a stylish pad for a young family in search of a new york-inspired apartment in gujarat, india. in an open and exposed design, the spaces highlight the raw materials in their original form, texture and color. the lively and interconnected areas comfortably host a couple, their baby and a dog, resulting in a successful and bold living space.

harsh boghani’s design approach included working with exposed brickwork and polished concrete floors. the designer integrated all the elements in a language that uplifts the natural quality of each material, giving the residence a natural and earthy feel. the exposed brick walls envelop the space from inside, bringing out the natural wood furniture that showcases its grain and texture. the interior’s experience varies throughout the day, with materials responding to the sunlight as it changes.

the client was open to combine colors, materials and textures for an industrial-style apartment. the space includes a pool in green and blue tones that light up the social areas. another focal point is the electrical grid designed and customized on site. each and every member was cut to exact measurements and the custom-made components reflect the hues of the foliage around. a set of planters, filled with areca palms, rest by the edge of the railing to complete the space.

the masculine master suite flaunts a wooden king size bed in the center, that has been set against a leather headboard. it rests against a wooden louvered wall paneling and mirrors, which cover the entire wall. it opens out to the attached bathroom consisting of a wardrobes, a bathtub and an elegant counter, cast in concrete with two basins. the thoughtful detailing complements the smart division of spaces.

the project has a magical rhythm that connects spaces through the repetitive use of few materials and wall treatments. every inch of space was thoughtfully designed and executed on site. to add drama, a customized human sculpture was designed that stands by the edge of the pool.

the awakening, by the pool, is a human sculpture conceptualized with a thought to receive positive vibes. as the dusk appears, the human sculpture reflects itself in the pool multiplying the height. the 6′ high sculpture was  sculpted in clay and cast in fiber, and then painted in a rustic blue wash finish. the pool ledge has been specifically designed for the dog who now uses and sun bathes for the same. the polished grey concrete floor merges well with the blue china mosaics in the pool to finish the contemporary design
