dissembled into segments and suspended on the wall, ‘hang it wooden shoes’, designed by young israeli tal weinreb, was displayed as part of her graduation project from bezalel academy of arts and design in jerusalem. the gallery-like storage technique is taken from the 18th century religious sect, ‘the shakers’. known for their durable and functional furniture – unused items were put on the walls, to help make space for other pieces within a room. ‘hang it wooden shoes’ is made from walnut wood, gold coated brass and silver. the footwear was constructed using CNC, welding, filling, 3d print, casting – advanced manufacturing processes that oppose the simple, basic and formal language of materials seen in ‘the shakers” work.
