takt project unveils 'glow ⇄ grow' solo exhibition at milan design week 2019

tokyo-based studio, takt project, unveils their latest work which will be presented as a solo exhibition during 2019’s milan design week. ‘glow ⇄ grow’ is a series of lights made from resin, that aims to simultaneously ‘glow’ and ‘grow.’ the idea envisioned by the designers will see liquid resin dripped onto the glowing light, solidifying and also growing in overall size. the exhibit aims to be the design of a process, a function that generates new functions, as opposed to the design of a completed form.

the resin hardens with light emitted by a programmed LED, with the light itself continuously changing its glow. the resin grows like icicles or like the natural forms within a limestone cave, showing various expressions by the lighting, and growing into a new shape from the emitted light. the project by takt does not intend to be an imitation of nature, but a process of artificial and natural integration that incorporates the principle of nature into artificial operation.

the exhibition aims to connect contrasting matters such as natural and artificial, autonomy and control, incomplete and complete. the installation creates a new environment that is neither natural nor artificial. marking their 5th year at milan design week, takt project will be presenting their work in the space of a railway arch turned auditorium from april 9th until the 14th.
