scottish design collective great brink blurs the line between past and present, craft and industry in the interior of glen scotia distillery in campbeltown, scotland. the program pays homage to the bygone era of campbeltown’s whisky dominance, and gives visitors an in-depth look into what it must have been like when glen scotia opened their doors in 1832.

materials include stone, oak, copper and brass, glass, cast iron and tweed — all of which were chosen to give the space a contemporary, but timeless atmosphere. due to the building’s downtown location, every bit of the space had to be maximized in order to accommodate a tasting area, retail space, and the master distiller’s office.

in response to the brief, the space was subdivided into three interconnecting, intimate areas. ‘historically, a visit to the distillery had always felt like a personal tour and we didn’t want to lose that, so the design was created to reflect the bespoke experience you can expect there.’ says glen scotia’s distillery manager.

to complete the experience, great brink also designed and produced a heritage range of merchandise for glen scotia. the ‘explorer series’ is produced with bespoke tweed from the knockando woolen mill in speyside, and include a whisky bag, clothing, and travel accessories. colors and textures reflect the kintyre landscape, and feature a quote from scottish golf legend old tom morris that reads, ‘the almichty maun hae had gowf in his e’e when he made this place.’
