studio BUZAO sculpts blurred, ethereal glass furniture collection for gallery ALL

gallery ALL presents ‘null,’ the latest collection by studio BUZAO exhibited for the first time at design miami/basel 2019. the glass series, which includes a table lamp, bench, shelf, and tables, expresses a geometric language of layering spheres and stacking rectangular volumes. sleek outlines and sharp corners recall the minimalism of modernist design, while their sculptural compositions blur the distinctions between design and art.

lead designer zeng peng of studio BUZAO describes the ‘stability, calmness, and rationality’ of the collection. each piece expresses a visual lightness of material balanced by its overall physical strength. presented by gallery ALL at design miami / basel 2019, null’s laminated glass surfaces have been treated with gradients of opacity that shift from a deep to translucent blue, then ultimately to a totally transparent glass. the blues tones reflect the sea and sky of the pearl river delta, the city in which studio BUZAO is based.

the reflections and refractions cast by the glass embrace the spirit of light and space. the collection references an artistic movement of 1960s southern california that was heavily influenced by environmental phenomena. visually, the partial material transparency renders moments of near invisibility and ephemerality. the collection makes use of an environmentally sustainable method of lamination which is resistant to fading. the collection is available is an unlimited array of colors and sizes.
