furf creates the 'roots' furniture series to raise awareness of deforestation in the amazon

furf design studio presents a collection of furniture titled ‘roots’, which aims to raise awareness of the recent deforestation in the amazon rainforest. as the name suggests, the project centers around the concept of tree roots, both visually and symbolically. with the series of pieces, which use ropes to structure and draw imaginary trees, the brazilian-based designers stress that we must respect our roots for a healthy future.

the series comprises of three pieces, which each utilize ropes to form the primary structure of the furniture. polished metals are then fixed to the ceiling to create the illusion of the furniture reaching infinity, both on the shelf and bench. the ropes scattered around the floor by furf intend to represent roots, free to bond with other elements of the collection and interact with other objects. the product touches its surroundings – both physically and conceptually.

the adjustable shelves can adapt to different interiors. the rope structure is extremely compact when disassembled, to be delivered in small packaging and reduce the environmental impacts of national and international logistics. in essence, the project uses the symbolism of trees with the aim of bringing us closer to nature and raising awareness of the devastating effects of amazon deforestation. roots has been created with gs móveis and the grand part of the proceeds will be donated to plant seedlings of native trees in partnership with specialized institutions in brazil.
