form us with love presents trace tile collection at stockholm furniture fair

stockholm furniture fair: the swedish tile manufacturing company – tilemark – offers bespoke carved tiles thanks to a machine that can turn any pattern, image or pictogram into your own series of wall tiles. working with form us with love, this innovated new tool will be presented at stockholm furniture fair, alongside a collection and product range titled ‘trace’, the first ever collection for the new swedish tile pattern printer.

the combination of technology, digital innovation and design has been brought together to enable the seamless transition from a print to a physical product—carving any free vector, pattern or typography onto the durable and hygienic surface of the ceramic tile. this program opens many doors to the endless opportunities of bespoke tiling and with this, form us with love created the ‘trace’, presented at stockholm design fair.

trace is composed of four different patterns—string, stream, stroke and stick—drawn by hand to highlight the tooling’s precision. afterwards, the image was scaled and rotated and by repeatedly zooming in, turning out or enlarging the pattern, new ways of combining the collection was born—resulting in a unique wall or floor, for every combination.

‘we wanted to show how easy it was to carve something as detailed as a map using the machine, maintaining the same precision as a craftsman. the graphic accuracy of tilemark’s tools are extraordinary. imagine any vector, coming to life as a dimensional trace on a tile.’ says jonas pettersson, CEO of form us with love

the idea behind tilemark –founded by in 2015 by michael hammar– was when hammar visited a fair in china and found a beautifully hand carved piece of art. drawn to this product development, he started exploring ways in which the technique could be done by a machine. furthermore, form us with love has expanded on the collaboration with a tilemark pictogram library, complete with minimalistic icons, suitable for any environment. this blueprint for concepts of different contexts will enable creatives and architects to explore their own designs.
